Information for Presenters

All presentations will be held in a hybrid format (both in-person and virtually). The onsite conference will be hosted in a space with camera equipment (zoom room), which will provide the ability to stream presentations live. Sessions may include a mix of both virtual presenters and in-person presenters. Questions from the audience, both virtual and in-person, will be discussed via the session chair/moderator. Sessions will not be recorded.

We ask all presenters to please send your handouts and/or slides by Wednesday, June 22, 2022. This will enable us to upload presentations to the onsite laptop and to the FASL website for download before the start of the conference. This will facilitate the accessibility of conference materials for all participants.

Please send your presentations to fasl.mcmaster.2022@gmail.com.

Be advised that all times in our schedule are Eastern Standard Time (local to McMaster University).

Talks

All paper presentations are 20 minutes long, plus 10 minutes for questions.

Talks (In-Person)

We will be asking all presenters who are presenting in-person to use the provided laptop (if needed) in order to facilitate our hybrid format. This will ensure smooth transitions between talks. You will be able to test the presentation on the laptop ahead of time.

Talks (Online)

We recommend that all online talks are presented live.

If you prefer to pre-record your talk, please share your recording with the organizers by Wednesday, June 22. Please confirm with the organizers whether you will be able to attend the question period live.

Whether you plan to use slides or a handout, we encourage you to share your screen. We also ask that you be prepared to share your materials with the organizers ahead of your session, so that they can share materials with the audience. Online presenters will have the opportunity to test their presentation / sounds one week before the conference.

Posters

Poster presenters will give a 3-minute lightning talk, presenting the key points of their work, followed by a 2-minute Q&A. After all lightning talks of each session are presented, all poster presenters will have further opportunity to discuss their work in zoom breakout rooms (live session). All poster presenters (including onsite presenters) will present a virtual poster, and we strongly recommend that this be in a standard slide format.
